Start Your Research with Library Databases!

Library databases provide access to thousands of articles and ebooks you'll need for your research. Library databases can be accessed off campus by entering your SURF ID and password. For a complete list view our Databases by Subject listing.
   

Science Direct  ScienceDirect provides access to nearly 2,500 journals and more than 33,000 books, covering 24 major disciplines across science, technology and health. Science In Context (Gale Database) Full-text science database that provides a variety of information for all science-related research needs. Content includes reference, peer-reviewed and technical periodicals, news, and multimedia. Scientific American Online The Scientific American Archive Online provides cover to cover access of Scientific American in color PDF (full-text) from 1993 to the present (via Nature.com).

Articles & Journals

Periodicals are important sources of information in your research. Library databases include articles from magazines, newspapers, and scholarly journals. Need more information on popular and scholarly periodicals? Science In Context (Gale Database) Full-text science database that provides a variety of information for all science-related research needs. Content includes reference, peer-reviewed and technical periodicals, news, and multimedia. Students and faculty have access to magazines, journals, news sources, primary sources, and various media in broad and diverse subject areas. Cross-search all EBSCOhost databases or link directly to search  Academic Search Premier (Journals)
which contains indexing and abstracts for more than 8,500 journals, with full text for more than 4,600 of those titles.

Books & eBooks

The MiraCosta College Library owns copies of over 200,000 books and ebooks! To locate books in print and ebooks, use the Library Catalog . If you wish to access the ebooks from off-campus, you will need to enter your SURF ID and password. Try the Databases by Subject list for additional reference, periodical, and ebook databases.

Reference & eBook databases provide background information and in-depth research on many research topics.  Popular databases include: Gale Virtual Reference Library; Oxford Reference Online; EBSCO eBooks; Britannica Online, and Springer eBooks.

Multimedia Sources

The MiraCosta College subscribes to several streaming video databases containing documentaries and educational videos. If accessing streaming databases from off-campus, you will be prompted for your SURF ID and password.
Films On Demand provides streaming educational videos on subject areas including Archival Films & Newsreels, Social Sciences, Business, Science, Health & Medicine and more. Academic Video Online (VAST) is a multidisciplinary collection of streaming video with approximately 17,000 full-length videos in 22 disciplines.  Intelecom is a searchable video clip database covering a wide variety of disciplines. Topic-specific clips average 3 to 5 minutes in length and are closed-captioned.
