What is Library 101?
LIBR 101 is designed to help students develop the knowledge and skills they’ll need to navigate the 21st Century information landscape. LIBR 101: Library and Information Strategies introduces students to the concepts of research planning and search strategies, in addition to the effective use of print and online research tools. LIBR 101 is a one credit, self-paced workbook course. Some sections of LIBR 101 are offered as open-entry/open-exit courses. Students may enroll in the course up to 8 weeks into the semester.
In Their Own Words
"It was eye-opening to compare different sources (i.e. Internet vs MiraCosta Library). I didn't realize how much more valid the information is from the MiraCosta Library than from the Internet. I often wondered why professors are so strict on where students get their sources and on citing sources, but now I understand that not every source is credible."
"I most certainly appreciated your well planned and documented syllabus. It has been a privilege to take this class. Thanks."
"Thanks for the great information."
"This semester, I have used what I learned in LIBR 101 to finish my Research Methods paper in PSYC 205. I collected all the relevant articles, summed up the ideas, and wrote the paper in my own words, paraphrasing, and quoting with citations. I did the reference citation, too."
"Yes, it worked for me because I could do units whenever I wanted to do them. It is not mandatory to do it every single day. For example, if I have a lot of homework today, I can do my library units the next day. I think that is a good thing about the self-paced format."
"I wish I had taken this course in my first semesters four years ago."
