The American Mosaic collection includes the African American ExperienceAmerican Indian Experience, and Latino American Experience. Oxford Music Online is an integrated music resource on the web, including the full text of The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, The New Grove Dictionary of Opera, and The New Grove Dictionary of Jazz. Pop Culture Universe: Icons-Idols-Ideas is an authoritative digital library of information on American and world popular culture, past and present.

Articles & Journals

Periodicals are important sources of information in your research. Library databases include articles from magazines, newspapers, and scholarly journals. Need more information on popular and scholarly periodicals? JSTOR provides full-text access to articles from over 1400 scholarly journals in a diverse array of arts, humanities, and social sciences disciplines.  Ebscohost provides access to several periodical databases. Academic Search Premier contains  full text articles from mostly academic/scholarly journals. Masterfile Premier provides more general and popular periodicals. ProQuest offers full-text articles from the Core National Newspapers (New York Times,Los Angeles TimesWall Street JournalWashington PostChristian Science Monitor) and the archive of New York Times-Historical (1851-2010).

Books & eBooks

The MiraCosta College Library owns copies of over 200,000 books and ebooks! To locate books in print and ebooks, use the Library Catalog . If you wish to access the ebooks from off-campus, you will need to enter your SURF ID and password. Try the Databases by Subject list for additional reference, periodical, and ebook databases.

Reference & eBook databases provide background information and in-depth research on many research topics.  Popular databases include: Gale Virtual Reference Library; Oxford Reference Online; EBSCO eBooks; Britannica Online, and Springer eBooks.
       
 

Multimedia Sources

The MiraCosta College subscribes to several streaming video databases containing documentaries and educational videos. If accessing streaming databases from off-campus, you will be prompted for your SURF ID and password.
Dance online video streaming includes 450 dance productions and documentaries by the most influential performers and companies of the twentieth century.

Music Online consists of the following collections: Classical Music Library, Contemporary World Music, American Song & African American Music, Jazz Music Library, and Smithsonian Global Sound.

Theatre in Video represents hundreds of leading playwrights, actors and directors. Included in this database are online streaming video of live performances, as well as film documentaries, covering the pre-eminent names in theatre.
