Professional Development Collection provides a highly specialized collection of electronic information especially for professional educators, professional librarians and education researchers.

The Chronicle of Higher Education provides online access to all locked content of Chronicle.com, which is a weekly news and job-information source for college and university faculty members, administrators, and students.

 

ERIC, the Education Resource Information Center (EBSCOhost), provides access to education literature and resources.


Articles & Journals

Periodicals are important sources of information in your research. JSTOR provides full-text access to articles from over 1400 scholarly journals in a diverse array of arts, humanities, and social sciences disciplines.  EBSCOhost provides access to several periodical databases. Academic Search Premier contains full text articles from mostly academic/scholarly journals. Masterfile Premier provides more general and popular periodicals.

Gale Virtual Reference Library provides background information, including facts, dates, biographies, and statistics on thousands of topics in law, politics, health, social issues, culture, and much more.


Books & eBooks

The MiraCosta College Library owns copies of over 200,000 books and ebooks! To locate books in print and ebooks, use the Library Catalog . If you wish to access the ebooks from off-campus, you will need to enter your SURF ID and password. Try the Databases by Subject list for additional reference, periodical, and ebook databases.

Reference & eBook databases provide background information and in-depth research on many research topics.  Popular databases include: Gale Virtual Reference Library; Oxford Reference Online; EBSCO eBooks; Britannica Online, and Springer eBooks.

Multimedia Sources

The MiraCosta College subscribes to several streaming video databases containing documentaries and educational videos. If accessing streaming databases from off-campus, you will be prompted for your SURF ID and password.

Films On Demand provides streaming educational videos on subject areas including Archival Films & Newsreels, Social Sciences, Business, Science, Health & Medicine and more. Academic Video Online is a multidisciplinary collection of streaming video with approximately 17,000 full-length videos in 22 disciplines. 

Film Collection from Media Education Foundation (streaming video from Kanopy Streaming) produces and distributes documentary films and other educational resources to inspire critical thinking about the social, political, and cultural impact of American mass media. Includes documentaries about education and teacher development.

Intelecom is a searchable video clip database covering a wide variety of disciplines. Topic-specific clips average 3 to 5 minutes in length and are closed-captioned.
