Add the Library to your Canvas Course

Add a Library Navigation button to your course in just a few simple steps. It makes it easy to connect your students to great library resources. And, we can even make a custom page for your students if you request an Orientation or Class Research Guide.

Embed Library Content Using the "Apps" Tools in Canvas

Use the "Tools - Apps" feature under the "plug" symbol (formerly, External Tools) in Canvas to embed videos and other library resources. For example, selecting Films On Demand opens a search for films by keyword. Search by topic or title, then select with the Embed button. Watch: Video on using Tools ("Apps") in Canvas.

Embed Kanopy Streaming Videos

Visit SWANK or Kanopy and locate the film you wish to link to or embed.

Embed (Recommended): To embed the video player in Canvas and play the video directly in Canvas, copy the embed code in the Share tool of Kanopy, then paste it in the Canvas "Embed" tool.

Link: the link can be placed on Canvas pages, links will send the student to the Kanopy site after SURF id authentication.

Sharing Library Resources: Linking and Proxy Server

Permalinks and the MiraCosta College Library Proxy Server

  1. Using Library Databases, locate the link to the article/eBook/etc you wish to link to (in your LMS, web page, an email, etc.)

  2. The link is usually labeled Stable URL, Permalink, or Bookmark (the Browser URL is not always the permalink)

  3. To ensure off-campus access, the URL must redirect through the MCC Proxy Server where users log-in with SURF id and password.

  4. If the URL already contains ".prox.miracosta.edu" you do not need to modify the URL, just copy and paste the link.

  5. To add the proxy server redirect to the URL, follow one of the examples below.

  6. Example:

http://www.jstor.org/stable/3192433

becomes,

http://prox.miracosta.edu/login?url=http://www.jstor.org/stable/3192433

or,

http://www.jstor.org.prox.miracosta.edu/stable/3192433
