Library databases provide access to thousands of articles and ebooks you'll need for your research. Library databases can be accessed off campus by entering your SURF ID and password. For a complete list view our Databases by Subject listing.

Mango Languages is a language-learning platform that provides international language, culture and ESL courses.  It also includes films in other languages.

Oxford Reference Online is a full-text Scholarly Reference collection, providing coverage of the full subject spectrum, ready-reference, and the resources of the Oxford Companions, including many bilingual dictionaries.

LexisNexis is a leading database for researching news, business, and legal topics.  It contains more than 6,000 sources from all over the world, drawn from print, broadcast, and online media.  Foreign language newspapers can be found here.

CultureGrams (online via ProQuest) is a reference database for exploring up-to-date cultural information from countries around the world (World Edition).  Additional modules explore the U.S. States and Canadian Provinces.

       

Articles & Journals

Periodicals are important sources of information in your research. Library databases include articles from magazines, newspapers, and scholarly journals. Need more information on popular and scholarly periodicals? JSTOR provides full-text access to articles from over 1400 scholarly journals in a diverse array of arts, humanities, and social sciences disciplines.  EBSCOhost provides access to several periodical databases. Academic Search Premier contains full text articles from mostly academic/scholarly journals. Masterfile Premier provides more general and popular periodicals.

Gale Virtual Reference Library is a database of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research.  It includes the complete electronic full text of over 250 reference titles.


Books & eBooks

The MiraCosta College Library owns copies of over 200,000 books and ebooks! To locate books in print and ebooks, use the Library Catalog . If you wish to access the ebooks from off-campus, you will need to enter your SURF ID and password. Try the Databases by Subject list for additional reference, periodical, and ebook databases.

Reference & eBook databases provide background information and in-depth research on many research topics.  Popular databases include: Gale Virtual Reference Library; Oxford Reference Online; EBSCO eBooks; Britannica Online, and Springer eBooks.

 

 

Multimedia Sources

The MiraCosta College subscribes to several streaming video databases containing documentaries and educational videos. If accessing streaming databases from off-campus, you will be prompted for your SURF ID and password.

Films On Demand provides streaming educational videos on subject areas including Archival Films & Newsreels, Social Sciences, Business, Science, Health & Medicine and more.  A World Languages Video Collection is available and can be sorted by language preference. Academic Video Online (VAST) is a multidisciplinary collection of streaming video with approximately 17,000 full-length videos in 22 disciplines.  Videos can be limited to specific languages.

Film Platform is a growing collection of documentary films for educational use.  Filter by language to find some films available in foreign languages.
