Sir John Bernard

Description: A chalk tomb-rubbing on black paper of Sir John Bernard. The image depicts an armored knight, with a broadsword at his side, standing on a recumbent calf. Noted as an original brass rubbing from Isleham Church, Cambridgeshire, England. An adhesive label on the recto attributes it to S. Dyble Esq., 9 Kevin Close, Cambridge, England. The work is mounted in painted/ gilt frame with frosted glass glazing.  Gifted to MCC 7/79, Eval for $150

Condition: The rubbing is in excellent condition. Paper is flat and well mounted. Chalk appears well bound to paper. 

Crucifixion

Dimensions: 18x16

Description: A black and linocut executed in the positive with black, blue ochre, and red pigments. The composition depicts the crucifixion scene with a central figure suspended on a cross flanked by four lamenting figures. It is signed in pencil at the lower visual right comer and titled at the lower visual left comer. The work is mounted in a silver metal section frame, single-matted in cream. , Bought for MCC 8/73, $42.75 

Condition: The linocut is in excellent condition, flat, and well-matted. Pigments are vivid and strong. The black fields of the work show fingerprints from handling. It is backed with non-archival, corrugated backing board and glazed with Plexiglas. 

 

Gandy dancer

Description: An original watercolor on paper depicting a boy, his back to the viewer, walking along railroad tracks. The painting is wood framed with a textile insert and glass glazed. Dated 1965, Gifted to MCC 1/78, Eval. by D. Camp for $400

Condition: The painting is in good condition. Pigments have altered with age and the paper has darkened. The paper is flat and remains well matted. The textile insert is yellowed and soiled.

 

Brown Glazed Bottle

Dimensions: 8x5

Description: A wheel-thrown, brown ceramic-bodied vessel. The neck and rim, down to the shoulder is glazed dark brown. The main body of the vessel is glazed light brown with an overlay design with a band of white glaze in the middle of the pot.

Stoneware Glazed Pottery, Brown Upper and Tan Base with Glazing. Artist is Frank Zincavage he is the founding member, song writer and bass player for the band Romeo Void. He is also a potter, and started selling his pottery in the 1970's. We do not know how or when his pottery was added to the MiraCosta College art collection.

Untitled (Boys in Dinghy)

Description: A watercolor on paper depicting two boys, one in a dinghy, the other alongside in the water. The painting is wood framed, double-matted cream/beige. MCC bought in 9/86 for $150

Condition: Excellent. Pigments are vibrant and strong. The paper is slightly cockled behind the mat. 

Dog sled

Dimensions: 15x2x2

Description: A small stone sculpture depicting a two-dog sled team, pulling a flat-bottomed sled with upon which a figure sits. Each element of the sculpture has been carved separately and assembled with adhesive. A leather thong once attached the dogs to the sled. It appears to be an incense burner.

Condition: The sculpture is in fair-good condition. Excess adhesive residue is visible around each of the elements - some of which may indicate previous repairs. The leather thong that once attached the dogs to the sled is broken and mostly missing. Its remains are still extant around the body of the front dog and inserted through a hole drilled in the front of the sled. The stone shows surface abrasions and scratches overall. The dogs' ears are chipped. Label falling off rubber banded to sculpture. Gift of the faculty wives 1965

It is signed by the artist in the lower visual left comer. The painting is mounted in a painted wood frame, with no mat or textile insert. It is unglazed and backed with a non-archival, corrugated backing board. , Gifted to MCC 11/78, eval. by H. Ganz for $300

Condition: Condition is in good and stable condition. Paint layers are cohesive and the canvas is tight on the stretcher. There is an abrasion to the paint layer along the bottom edge of the frame. Tape holding cardboard is gone and no longer able to hold the cardboard in place. 11/17/25

Description: An original oil painting of a Siamese cat sitting in front of a Buddha head. The painting is mounted in a carved, painted wood frame with a textile insert. It is signed "Elsie" in the lower visual right corner in light blue paint. Painted in Vista, CA 1977, Eval. for $65

Condition: The painting is in excellent condition. Paint layers are cohesive and the canvas is taut on its stretcher. There is a light layer of surface dust accumulated in the irregularities of the brush strokes as well as on the frame and textile insert.

Description: A wheel-thrown, beige-bodied Partially glazed ceramic vessel, drip glazed from rim and mouth. 

Condition: The vessel is in excellent condition. There are no apparent damages or weaknesses.

Rabbit

Description: A sculpture of a rabbit, sitting up on its haunches. The sculpture is solid cast from 11 Alvastone", a proprietary compound gypsum of stone dust and resin, to give an overall color of grey-white hardstone. The sculpture is reproduced with the impression of Alva© 76" and the artist's signature on the underside of the proper right hind leg.  Bought for MCC in 3/81 for $25, Number 1/83070

Condition: The sculpture is in excellent condition with only light surface abrasions visible.
