Crucifixion

Description: A black and linocut executed in the positive with black pigments. The composition depicts the crucifixion scene with a central figure suspended on a cross flanked by four lamenting figures. It is signed in pencil at the lower visual right comer and titled at the lower visual left comer. The work is mounted in a silver metal section frame, single-matted in cream.

Bought for MCC 8/73, $42.75 

Condition: The linocut is in excellent condition, flat, and well-matted. Pigments are vivid and strong. The black fields of the work show fingerprints from handling. It is backed with non-archival, corrugated backing board and glazed with Plexiglas. 11/25

 

Egbere, the Weeping Spirits

Description: A black and linocut executed in the negative with black, blue ochre, and red pigments. The composition depicts a main central human figure surrounded by smaller figures and animals. Condition: The linocut is in excellent condition, flat and well matted. Pigments are vivid and strong. It is backed with non-archival, corrugated backing board and glazed with Plexiglas. 11/25

Dot Matrix

Description: A computer-generated geometric image of superimposed squares printed in red and blue. The work is signed "James Cuilty" in pencil at the lower visual left comer and numbered" AP /1-1" at the lower visual right comer. The work is un-matted, framed in a black metal section frame and glazed with glass. It is backed with a non-archival, corrugated cardboard backing board.  Gifted to MCC 4/88, Eval. for $200

Condition: The work is in fair condition. Pigments remain relatively rich and vibrant. Paper is cockled overall and has yellowed with age. There is a¼" puncture at edge 4 inches above the lower visual right comer. There is a pinhole at the visual left edge center. The remains of two silverfish are pinned between the work and the glass 2" above left center. More powdered insect remains are present at the visual left edge 2" below the pinhole mentioned above. 

Watchful eyes

Description: An original oil painting of a Siamese cat sitting in front of a Buddha head. The painting is mounted in a carved, painted wood frame with a textile insert. It is signed "Elsie" in the lower visual right corner in light blue paint. Painted in Vista, CA 1977, Eval. for $65

Condition: The painting is in excellent condition. Paint layers are cohesive and the canvas is taut on its stretcher. There is a light layer of surface dust accumulated in the irregularities of the brush strokes as well as on the frame and textile insert. 

Village Americain

Description: A color lithograph depicting a village scene from an aerial view. There is a church at center, trees of red, yellow and peach and a rolling hillside in the background. The image is numbered 197/260 at the lower visual left and is signed by the artist in pencil at the lower visual right corner. It is mounted in a wooden frame, single matted with cream mat board and glazed with Plexiglas. Framed art print, date 3/80, $92

Condition: The lithograph is in very good condition. Pigments are strong and vibrant. The paper has darkened slightly. It is backed with non-archival, corrugated cardboard backing board.

The painting is mounted in a wood frame, without a mat or textile insert and unglazed. There is no backing board. Gifted to MCC 11/80, Eval. by D. Camp for $50

Condition: The painting has some fading with the cardboard backing flaking apart on the back of the canvas. The canvas is taut on the stretchers. Paint layers are cohesive. It may possibly have undergone previous re-stretching and restoration. 

 

Mountain Riders (print)

Description: A color lithograph depicting two figures on horseback. Executed in gold, green, red, blue and black pigments. Numbered 2/260 in pencil in the lower visual left corner. Signed "Lebedang'' in pencil in the lower visual right corner. The lithograph is framed in a gold metal section frame with Plexiglas glazing. It has been framed with a non­ archival, corrugated cardboard backing. A copy of the artist's biography in adhered to the backing board.  The lithograph is noted as having been pulled at Arts-Litho, Paris, 1973.  Bought for MCC 5/76 for $51, Print is Number 2/260

Condition: The lithograph is in fair condition. The frame is breaking apart at the joints. Currently being held together with tape. Pigments appear stable. The paper and Plexiglas have bowed forward of the frame along the upper edge. This is likely to be heat-related due to the work's current location. 

Voyage en Sampan (print)

Description: A color lithograph depicting a mountainous river scene with sampan boats. Negative space around the main image has two sets of figures depicted within it. Executed in green, red, blue and black pigments with gold overlays. Numbered 202/260 in pencil in the lower visual left comer. Signed "Lebedang" in pencil in the lower visual right comer. The lithograph is framed in a gold metal section frame with Plexiglas glazing. It has been framed with a non-archival, corrugated cardboard backing. A copy of the artist's biography in adhered to the backing board. The lithograph is noted as having been pulled at Arts-Litho, Paris, 1977. Date on print 10/78 $90

Condition: The lithograph is in fair condition. Pigments appear stable.

 

Untitled (Geranium)

The painting is mounted in a painted wood frame, with no mat or textile insert. It is unglazed and there is no backing board. Gift, date 11/78, eval. by H. Ganz $300

Condition: The painting is in good condition. Its layers are cohesive and the canvas is tight on the stretcher. There is pencil graffiti in the blue field along the visual left edge. There is a two-inch scratch halfway down the visual right edge along the frame edge. There are two areas of light blue wall paint spatters on the work: in the dark red field of the table edge to the visual left of center, in the red vertical field (chair back), three inches from the visual right edge. No cardboard backing. The canvas is coming off the frame, so it might need new brackets. The frame seem on the left top and bottom right is separating.

Condition: The painting is in fair condition. Paint layers are cohesive and the canvas is tight on the stretcher. There is ballpoint pen graffiti above the artist's signature reading "Julie Edwards". There are five random light blue wall paint spatters: center poppy, far visual right leaf, upper visual right field of the blue background, below the far visual right poppy, in the table edge at the visual right edge of the painting. The verso of the canvas is yellowed and adhesive-stained. Backside cardboard is gone, and all metal swing joints are rusted. Left corner of the backside has finger prints, looks to be dried blood, probably DNA left from the artist. 11/17/25

Condition: Condition is in good and stable condition. Paint layers are cohesive and the canvas is tight on the stretcher. There is an abrasion to the paint layer along the bottom edge of the frame. Tape holding cardboard is gone and no longer able to hold the cardboard in place. 11/17/25

Condition: The painting is in good condition. Pigments have altered with age and the paper has darkened. The paper is flat and remains well matted. The textile insert is yellowed and soiled.

Description: An original watercolor on paper depicting two figures standing on a jetty, signed by the artist in the lower visual left comer. The work is framed in a custom-made wooden frame with a linen insert. It is glazed with glass. Dated 1976. A gift from the artist in 1977

Condition: The painting is in good condition. Pigments appear slightly light faded. The paper is slightly cockled. There are areas of silverfish grazing in the lower visual right corner. The work is backed with masonite and black paper, which has tom from hanging on a nail in the past. 

Untitled (Sailboats)

Description: A watercolor on paper depicting a small sailboat regatta in front of a pier. The work is archivally framed in a wood frame, double matted green-green. It is glazed with "Tru Vue" conservation glass (acrylic) and has backing paper that obscures the verso of the painting. 

Condition: Excellent. Pigments are vibrant and appear unaltered. Paper is flat and well-matted.

Condition: Excellent, flat, and well-matted. Pigments are strong and appear true. There is slight yellowing to the paper along the mat window edge.

Condition: Very good condition. The paper is slightly cockled and the pigments appear to be slightly light-faded. It is backed with foam core board.

Margaret Bernard Peyton

Polar Bear

Description

A stylized sculpture of a striding polar bear. The sculpture is solid cast from "Alvastone," a proprietary gypsum of stone dust and resin, to give an overall color of white hardstone. The sculpture is reproduced with the impression of "Alva © 78" on the back of the proper left hind foot.  Bought for MCC in 3/81 for $50, Number 19/4667

Condition: The sculpture is in very good condition. There are minor surface abrasion/ striations overall and three small surface chips to the upper proper left hind leg. Light pencil marks are visible over the figure's back.

Rabbit

Description: A sculpture of a rabbit, sitting up on its haunches. The sculpture is solid cast from 11 Alvastone", a proprietary compound gypsum of stone dust and resin, to give an overall color of grey-white hardstone. The sculpture is reproduced with the impression of Alva© 76" and the artist's signature on the underside of the proper right hind leg.  Bought for MCC in 3/81 for $25, Number 1/83070

Condition: The sculpture is in excellent condition with only light surface abrasions visible.

Bust of a Head

Description:  Bronze, bust of head, created by Blayney, Robert Monroe who created the clock tower in front of the admin. building on OCN campus

Condition: Good

Dog Sled

Creator: Dimu

Dimensions: 15x2x2

Description: A small stone sculpture depicting a two-dog sled team, pulling a flat-bottomed sled with upon which a figure sits. Each element of the sculpture has been carved separately and assembled with adhesive. A leather thong once attached the dogs to the sled. It appears to be an incense burner. Gift of the faculty wives 1965.

Condition: The sculpture is in fair-good condition. Excess adhesive residue is visible around each of the elements - some of which may indicate previous repairs. The leather thong that once attached the dogs to the sled is broken and mostly missing. Its remains are still wrapped around the body of the front dog and inserted through a hole drilled in the front of the sled. The stone shows surface abrasions and scratches overall. The dogs' ears are chipped. Label falling off and is rubber banded to sculpture.

Stoneware Glazed Vase

Description: A wheel-thrown, beige-bodied Partially glazed ceramic vessel, drip glazed from rim and mouth. 

Condition: The vessel is in excellent condition. There are no apparent damages or weaknesses.

Wine Decanter

Location: OC12000 2nd floor circulation desk (front area)

Dimensions: 17x6

Description: A round-bodied, long-necked vessel with a capped lid and finial The body, neck and lid of the vessel are covered in a black surface coating, silvered and decorated with a combination raised, repousse design reminiscent of an ancient Assyrian tribute relief. It is noted as being presented during Spring Semester 2003 by the Pirouzfar and Sartip families of Oceanside, California. 
The vessel is exhibited under a five-sided acrylic vitrine with a painted black deck. Holes for security screws are drilled on each side. Only one security screw is being utilized. Made out of Copper in Isfahan, Iran in 1998. The art on the decanter was inspired by one of the old Persian palaces "Pasargad" which goes back to the Cyrus the Great Era. 

Condition: Excellent. Exposed, bare copper metal remains bright pink.

Candle snuffer

Brown Glazed Bottle

Creator: Zincavage, Frank

Location: OC12211 (Located on the top shelf behind the circulation desk)

Dimensions: 8x5

Description: A wheel-thrown, brown ceramic-bodied vessel. The neck and rim, down to the shoulder is glazed dark brown. The main body of the vessel is glazed light brown with an overlay design with a band of white glaze in the middle of the pot.

Stoneware Glazed Pottery, Brown Upper and Tan Base with Glazing. Artist is Frank Zincavage he is the founding member, song writer and bass player for the band Romeo Void. He is also a potter, and started selling his pottery in the 1970's. We do not know how or when his pottery was added to the MiraCosta College art collection.

Condition: Excellent
