Library databases give you access to credible, reliable, and peer-reviewed information. Use them to find:

  1. Quality Information: All resources are vetted by experts.
  2. Narrow Search Options: You can filter by subject, publication type, and date to find exactly what you need.
  3. Access to Full-Text Articles: Many databases offer full access to articles that aren't free on the web.

Key Terms

To find information on your topic in a database, you'll need to come up with key terms. 

Example Film Adaptations for Database Searching:

  • "The Great Gatsby" (2013) – Adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel.
  • "The Lord of the Rings" Trilogy (2001-2003) – Adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy epic.
  • "Pride and Prejudice" (2005) – Adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel.
  • "The Shining" (1980) – Adaptation of Stephen King's novel.
  • "Blade Runner" (1982) – Adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?.
  • "The Godfather" (1972) – Adaptation of Mario Puzo's novel.

Scholarly Sources

Scholarly (or Peer-Reviewed) Articles are:

  • Written by experts in a subject who share original research
  • Published in a scholarly journal

Characteristics:

  • Use technical language 
  • Use many in-text citations for research or quotes of others
  • Include lengthy references or bibliography
  • Often include tables, charts, and graphs
  • Do not usually have advertisements
