Database Searching

  • Spelling counts! Not seeing many results? Double-check your spelling.
  • Try "Phrase Searching" - Place quotation marks around keywords to keep them together.
    • Example: "food insecurity" "college students"
  • Use AND to combine your problem with solutions or related concepts.
    • Example: "mental health" AND stigma
  • Apply Truncation (shift + 8 to get the asterisk) to search multiple word variations.
    • Example: sustain* searches sustain, sustainable, sustainability, and sustaining
  • Grow your keywords in abstracts, article titles, and subjects.

What is an Annotated Bibliography?

An annotated bibliography lists your sources with a short explanation of how each will support your research paper.

Assignment Requirements:

  • Total Sources: 5
    • 3 from library databases (EBSCO, Gale, etc.)
    • 2 from other credible sources (Google Scholar, TED Talks, YouTube, interviews)
  • Annotations (about 100 words): Explain how you will use the source, not just what it says
